7 New Media Mistakes That Help You Fail
Social Media has a variety of problems. I have herein published the most common mistakes that really make someone look like a newbie that just learned about the Internet. Don’t worry if you have committed these mistakes, you are certainly not by your self.
For starters, you need to set up a Business Blog as your main site. Not doing that and focusing it on generating leads or sales is a huge mistake. What are some additional mistakes?
#1 Signing up to be active in in every social sites
If you join and building a social media profile on every new thing that comes out, you better be a web journalist. No one can keep up with all the new sites. Strategically join those that have your target market in them.
#2 Expect that just creating an account will produce results
Oh No! – you have to do more than just set up an account to get results. If I had a peso for every person that has told me they set up a LinkedIn account and nothing happened, I would be living large.
#3 Not using the social tools to develop connections
Nearly every site makes it possible to connect with other people. I think that is why they call is SOCIAL media. If you are not connecting, no one is finding you.
#4 Giving up after a day or two
You can produce Steady leads and sales from the web if you keep developing it.
Social Networking is about making and sustaining connections. The only way you can grow your influence is long term. The more you use a social site, the more it will grow a community. If you grow the right community, then it will produce great sales and leads eventually.
#5 Promoting yourself without being helpful
The fact that you created an account does not give you the right to blatantly sell constantly. And it is a sure way to get people to recommend throwing you out of the community.
#6 Not using the tools to create links to other resources
Similar to not connecting to people, if you only link to your website or blog and never bookmark or link to other interesting resources, you will never gain the respect of your audience. That should not surprise you
#7 Not intentionally building a useful network
Don’t pick the biggest network or the one that your friends said you should use. Find out where your current customers go and your target audience hangs out online. Intentionally build value and influence in the best communities, even if they are smaller.
If you are a business person trying to get into this social media, I fully expect that you have made all of these mistakes. I know I have at one time or another. I promise you that if you get these things turned around, your popularity and influence will rise online, as will your client acquisition.
