Despite the opinions of many online marketers, who dismiss Twitter as nothing but a waste of time, it has proven to be a useful tool in the marketer’s toolbox for driving traffic and networking with fellow marketers, or people with similar interests.

The first step to taking advantage of the benefits that it offers is to follow, and be followed, by those with the same interests as you. Don’t limit yourself to just those people who you actually know, anyone who operates in the same niche or niches as you is an option.

Having gotten yourself a decent amount of followers, the next step is to start tweeting. When you tweet, it shouldn’t be about yourself, but about others. There have been many spoofs of Twitter in the form of comics and videos which comment on how some people like to tweet about their everyday lives. Each and every one of your tweets should provide value to your followers (some, if not all of them), and that means they need to be telling them something useful that they probably don’t already know.

You’ll find that there are plenty tools around too to help you get even more from Twitter. These tools can be used to automate tasks which you may find are taking up too much of your time. Twitter is a social networking site though, and people often forget about the social aspect of it. If you are truly interested in networking with people on Twitter, then try not to automate anything. While it does save time to automate parts of your Twitter account, doing so will make you seem less interested in your followers.

As well as simply sending information out to your followers, Twitter is great for building new contacts by getting involved in conversations and answering others questions. If someone makes an interesting tweet, then tweet back that you found their tweet helpful and maybe add something to what they originally tweeted. Or, if someone tweets about something that you don’t know about that, then tweet back to ask them for more details on it.

If you tweet and interact with certain individuals long enough, they’ll start trusting and respecting you. Once there is trust and respect between you, then that’s when a viral networking effect begins. As soon as you start building your network on Twitter, you’ll find that your follower base will start to grow on its own without any additional effort on your part.

Twitter is similar to sites such as Facebook or Myspace. these are some of the most popular Social Networking sites. Each site has it’s own demographics. Each site has it’s own uses as well as it’s own set of rules for use.

Twitter establishes a basic need to stay in touch with people it is human interaction through short or brief messaging and always answering the question of what are you doing? Twitter does have a distinct way about them different then other social media sites and this is in the way they communicate. Twitter only allows 140 characters of communication at one time. so in reality all you can send at once is a message of 140 characters. This really is nothing more than sending out a text message. They refer to these little communications as tweets. I know this all sounds very cute. But it isn’t cute at all, it is nothing short of a powerhouse. There are many different ways to build a huge following within twitter.

I went to a seminar recently about social networking where one of the speakers had his laptop open and was conversing with his twitter following during the seminar. During the seminar he was tweeting or (texting) to his friends while the others were speaking giving them a minute by minute account of what he was doing. Too high tech? I think not. How many times have you sen people texting their friends. Texting is one of the major used for twitter.

Once you discover the Twitter secret you too will be able to build your business and make money with Twitter. One way to accomplish this is by building a following of members. If you want to build your business on Twitter then you need to build a huge list of followers. So the next time someone asks you what is twitter? you will know how to answer.

I found a site that will help you to get thousands of friends in little time with ease. Take the time to look at this you’re going to love it. Click this What is Twitter? Link For more information about twitter and the site. If you are one that likes to view something as well the site has a brief informative video. You will be amazed with the way this works.

Note: Any link or url in this article may be an affiliate link or web address that earns me an income if you take an action or purchase a product as a result of that link or url.

If you’ve been on Internet marketing forums, then you know that this is a topic of hot debate. Some people think it’s fine to market whenever you want on Twitter. Other people think you should never market and that the site should just be used for social networking purposes.

As part of defining your Twitter business plan, you need to decide what is right for you. If you would rather just showcase what you have for sale — by all means do so. Just realize that your conversions might be lower than those who take the time to develop a relationship. Some people wonder what exactly it means to have a relationship on Twitter. Obviously, if you have thousands of followers the chance of you being able to keep up with the conversation in its entirety are slim. However, you can reply to people, follow interesting people, offer valuable content, and more in order to become a respected Twitterer your niche.

Once you take the time to network, people will be very responsive when you decide to market something. You can easily get traffic and sales once you start doing this! That’s because people are most likely to purchase from someone they know and trust. Even though it is online, and is micro-blogging, people feel like they get to know you over time from your tweets. They’ll know about your business, what you’re up to, and what your personality is like. That can make a huge difference when it comes to dealing with you over a competitor in your niche.

That doesn’t mean there is a magic formula as to how often you should market and how often you should network. Go with your gut, and examine what other people in your niche seem to be doing. Often they are doing what many followers seem to really enjoy, so you can emulate what they are doing and put your own twist on it.

Over time, you may find that your Twitter strategy changes. That is just fine! The only important thing is that you get started networking and marketing on Twitter as soon as possible. This is a golden opportunity, as the site is growing over time, and it can be an excellent way to reach targets in your market. Marketing on Twitter can be an excellent strategy to earning more money!

You need to know what your business model is and how to set things up. For example, some people tweet direct affiliate links on Twitter. This is sometimes frowned upon by others, but it may not be a problem depending on the niche you are in.

Another way to make money on Twitter is more direct. You can simply tweet a link to a product you are selling. Yet another method is to tweet a link to an opt-in page so you can build a list. This list will then be full of people you can easily contact any time you want in order to make more money. Simply set up a squeeze page with a free e-book (or whatever you’d like) to give away to entice people to join your list.

Some people tweet links to their blogs or websites where they have Adsense or cost per action offers. This can be a good way to make money, depending on who the people in your niche are. Obviously, you’ll need to match the market to the product you are trying to promote. Once you do that, and add value for the people who follow you, it’ll be easier than ever for you to make sales!

Of course, it’s important to realize that the more traffic you have, the more visitors and sales you are likely to get. That is why, in addition to networking and marketing, it’s important to focus on getting as many followers as possible. Hopefully you are making that your mission, as it is very important. The more followers you have, the easier things will be for you to make money online!

It’s important to test and track things as well. You may find that certain types of links work well on Twitter and others do not, depending on the niche you are involved in. People in one niche might respond to affiliate offers better, while people in another niche might respond to joining an opt-in list more readily.

Doing a little bit of market research and seeing what other people in your niche do is a great way to earn more money on Twitter. Who knew that such a fun social networking tool could be such a profitable money generator? Many people are earning full-time incomes on Twitter, so it’s time for you to join that trend today.

It is not enough to just focus on Twitter all day long, as that is putting your eggs all in one basket! If you have a successful following in your niche, it is time to encourage them to visit your blog or website. Better yet — they should be able to easily purchase a product from you since they have grown to trust you.

This message serves as a warning that too many people waste their days away on Twitter. While it’s fun to chat with people, there has to be a limit you set for yourself. Otherwise, while Twitter is keeping you busy, it’s not actually productive. It’s best to set a time limit each day for how much you time you can spend on Twitter. For some people, just 10 minutes per day works well. If you’re having trouble with that low number, and enjoy Twitter as entertainment, you might increase that to an hour or so. The problems occur when people spend hour upon hour on Twitter. That’s no way to build your business!

With that said — that does not mean Twitter isn’t a great IM platform! There are some people making thousands of dollars on Twitter, and have no problem doing so. That’s because they have dominated their niche and have added so much value that people have no problem ordering from them or visiting their website. It’s best to emulate these people. Find out who is successful on Twitter and ask some questions, or model their strategy. You should be following them in your own Twitter account to see what successful Twittering looks like.

Along with Twitter, you might develop a squeeze page, product, affiliate offer, or whatever else is part of your overall business strategy. Please realize that Twitter is just one traffic generation/networking tool, and that there are many others out there as well that you can take advantage of. Writing articles, creating videos, networking on Facebook, networking on MySpace, and other avenues are the perfect ways to advertise your business. Twitter is incredibly fun, and incredibly useful, but it’s just one part of your overall marketing message.

As you start to use Twitter, set those limits for yourself and figure out a game plan. That will help you use it as effectively as possible, so you can start marketing and getting more traffic and more money.

Some people are concerned that if they open one Twitter account they will not be able to open another Twitter account. Fortunately, many people have successfully opened multiple Twitter accounts according to the niches they are in. For example, some people might have an Internet marketing Twitter account, and then they might have a Twitter account that focuses on another niche they are in, such as parenting.

You may want to concentrate on building one follower list first before moving on to another. However, if you find that you’re getting many Twitter followers and are successfully getting traffic and sales in one account, it’s time to try your methods in another account. Scale it up!

It’s easy to create another Twitter account. You will need another e-mail address, which is easy to get at Gmail.com or Yahoo.com. Simply put in this e-mail address, choose your username, and you are good to go. This is helpful because you want to really match your marketing and networking to the right people. If you have a list full of people from hundreds of different niches, it will be very hard to match this kind of marketing. Doing so in different niches is really the best choice you can make.

Unfortunately, it can become quite overwhelming to manage all these different accounts. That is when you’ll want to make use of some of the automated tools and methods out there that help you manage multiple accounts. In fact, there’s a product available that is very comprehensive and includes a method for managing more than one account. For the savvy marketer, this is actually a must! To see this product please visit TweetLater.com

Figuring out whether you can open up different Twitter accounts is just one thing you need to educate yourself on if you want to dominate your niche on Twitter. You do need to be careful about automated methods and building many different Twitter accounts very quickly, because that will definitely raise a red flag in the Twitter system. You want to work with the system, provide value, and develop a good Twitter business model in order to make as much money as possible and drive as much traffic as possible to your website.

If it fits into your current business model, open another Twitter account! This’ll be a great decision that will help you to drill down into different niches and master all of the ones you decide to target.

It’s unfortunate that some people are using Twitter as a spam tool. That’s why it’s essential for you to understand the difference between spamming, marketing, and networking on Twitter.

First things first — why are you on Twitter? If you’re an Internet marketer, the chances are good that you hope to either make sales or generate more traffic to your website. There is nothing wrong with this, but it is important to understand that the way you go about this can either make or break you in the world of Twitter.

Spamming is basically when you auto follow a bunch of people and only add affiliate links. This is not spamming in the true sense of the word since that deals with e-mail and unwanted solicitation, but what matters is that many people consider this to be spam! People will quickly unfollow you and all your efforts will be wasted.

Marketing on Twitter is when you occasionally present products for sale to people who will be interested. This works well if the people who are following you are in the niche you are presenting the offer in. That way they’ll be very targeted and will be interested in what you have to offer.

Networking on Twitter is what you do to gain friends in your niche. You won’t directly make sales from this, but it is a great thing to do for your business. Networking can help you develop affiliate relationships and JV relationships. It also helps get your name out there so people in your niche are familiar with you when they run across your product in the future. There are incredible opportunities that open up as a result of networking!

Before you get started using Twitter, it’s best to define what your business model is. This will help determine the kind of tweets you put out, as well as the offers you present. Of course, you can use a mixture of marketing and networking, but never spamming! Always add value and your customers will come flocking to you. When you add value, people will definitely look for your tweets and will want to subscribe to your blog or website.

Twitter is an amazing tool when it is used properly. The good news is that there are many tools out there that can help you build a large list, and add relevant content. Gone are the days where you had to rely on articles to generate content — now you can micro blog and develop real relationships with people in your niche!

Websites that have these rules include MySpace, Facebook, and the newly popular Twitter. These rules are not made to dampen everyone’s fun but to keep the peace and show consideration for fellow users.

Just like the other websites, there are some basic rules and tips to keeping your Twitter account alive and active.

Inactive account- Do not leave your Twitter account in sleep mode. Friends and family like to follow what’s going on with you because they find you fasinating. They want to know the person behind the Twitter account and want to know that you still have ties to the interactive internet world. Make it a point to check in several times a week. That way you can keep your followers interested and keep your account up and running.

Spam Is Bad- Twitter users want to know everything about you (you being the key word here). Sure they like to know how your baking business is going or how many vacuums you have sold, but that’s not as important to your followers as you. Do you like what you bake? Did you suck a toy up through the vacuum cleaner? Keep in mind the quickest way to get rid of your followers is to be detached from them.

Spam is considered someone who posts the same link a considerable amount on their website or page. The rule of thumb is if you are following more than you are being followed, you could be considered a spammer. Remember to keep an equal ratio between followers and the people that follow you.

Don’t SHOUT- One of the most aggravating these among users (on any website, not just Twitter) is when someone uses their CAPS LOCK to type. This is considered yelling and not necessary. If you need to get your point across, use your caps lock on one key word.

Reply to your replies- If someone leaves you a comment or reply on your Twitter, it takes no time at all to reply back to them. Failure to do so can be considered to be rude and snooty. To reply on Twitter, click on the @Replies button that is above your Inbox. Doing so can help make replying back to your Tweets a lot easier. Once you have done this, you should be able to see all of the comments your followers have left for you with @(yourusername).

Take advantage of the Direct Message System for those times when you are wanting to have a longer than usual Tweeter conversation. There’s no need for the whole world to see what you’re talking about.

Sober Tweeting- While you may think it’s hilariously fun to tweet after your two sheets to the wind, it really isn’t and should be thought through first. You may end up saying something that you never would or should say if you were sober.

Over-Enthusiastic Tweet-Head- Don’t tweet so much that it gives no one else a chance to reply back to you. Twitter, like many of the other websites, is available to you to build relationships and to get to know people.

Going Public with Tweeter- Again, like many other websites, what you say on Tweeter is for the whole entire world to see. If you need to say something that you don’t want the entire world to see, then take advantage of the Direct Message. Tweeter is public, so watch what you say and who you say it to.

Tweeting on Twitter can be very tricky and something you may find takes saying, just the right words. The character box only lets you write up to 140 characters…which isnt much room… to say what you need to say, so using this space takes cleverness to attrack attention. Just because the character box askes, “What are you doing?” doesnt mean that you have to actually state what your doing; it’s just a way of asking, what do you need to say?

Try not to send out tweets more than a few times a day. Why? Because doing so will cause your followers to loose interest in you and quickly click on the “unfollow” tab. Say what you need to say in the morning, keeping in mind that you just need to cleverly say what you need people to read. Then tweet again around mid day, and then in the evening; tweeting more than five times a day is really pushing it because some people view that as excessive tweeting or spam. You don’t want to loose your following, you want to grow it.

It’s perfectly fine to interact with your following and grow a rapport with them. Keep your tweets friendly and warm, but to the to point. Don’t ever get offensive if someone doesnt see something the way you do, just take it lightly. Remember that you don’t want to ever be offensive or brash yourself. Rule of thumb, tweet three times a day about what your niche is, then twice a day, just to say friendly hello’s or funny comments.

Re-tweeting another persons comment, is perfectly fine, if you think your followers might find it interesting. Type; “RT @Twitterusername tweet”. Many people will appreciate the gesture of sharing what they posted for others to see, especially if its for a product or service they are offering; these include freebies and gifts they’re giving away.

In Twitter world, it’s easy to get lost in translation. You don’t want for this to happen, so by clicking on @replies, you can view all the replies of something you posted previously to help you keep up with your following and reply back to them in a timely fashion. If you neglect to reply, you will loose your following because they will think that you just dont care and you only want to grow a hefty following, and while that might be true, you don’t want them getting that impression. Be smart and sociable, always try to reply back as quickly as possible.

Different people have different reasons to use Twitter. Decide what you will use it for so that you have a clear strategy before creating an account. Once you know what you will be using it for, you can create an account name and profile accordingly.

If you decide to use Twitter as a social network, you may want to use a variation of your name as your account name. This will help you develop relationships on a more personal level. You will want to follow people that are social and chatty. As you are searching for people to follow, read their updates to see if they appeal to you.

Twitter can be used effectively to build your brand and generate traffic to your blog or website. If this is your strategy, make sure that your account name is representative of your domain name, product or area of expertise. Write interesting updates that reflect your brand or the topic that you want people to click through and read. Brevity is important since updates are limited to 140 characters and you will need to use a url shortener service like bit.ly, twurl, or tinyurl when posting a link. Without shortening the link, you might find you have no characters left to use in your update.

You may want to use Twitter to increase your reputation as an expert or build your site’s reputation as an authority site. To do that, offer tips to your followers in the niche that you occupy. Make sure to tweet the tip about 5 tips throughout the day so that you reach people in different time zones. Keep the tip brief so that you can add “See more” and a shortened link to your site or blog.

No matter how you intend to use Twitter, do not constantly tweet flogging products or your blog. That will only have your followers unfollowing as fast as they can. Be sociable and ask questions of others. You need to draw them out in order to have discussions that trigger an interest in you and your site.
